Disney has lifted the lid on a collection of new stills from Rob Marshall’s Into The Woods, which unites some of the most iconic characters from The Brothers Grimm fairytales.
While some of the images are merely high-res versions of ones we’ve seen previously, there are a couple of sparkling new ones that showcase some of the mystical settings within the adaptation.
For the uninitiated, Into The Woods follows an ordinary couple who find that they’ve been cursed by a witch (Meryl Streep) that prevents them from having children. And so, to lift the spell, they venture forth into a nearby forest and happen across an array of colorful characters, including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and more.
Based on Stephen Sondheim’s musical of the same name, Into The Woods has been an outlying contender for this year’s Award circuit. And while we don’t foresee Disney’s latest turning heads in the major categories, it’s almost a safe bet that the film will receive a nod for its terrific costume design.
Into The Woods will open in theaters on December 25th. Until then, be sure to check out the recently released images in the gallery below.
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.
