Hall H played host to a great many presentations yesterday as the industry’s heavy-hitters paraded their wares in front of eager fans. One of those exhibitors was Marvel Studios, setting the stage for James Gunn and Co. to introduce Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
According to Gunn’s comprehensive Facebook post, those in attendance at Hall H were treated to not one, but three rip-roaring clips: “1) A piece from the film featuring Yondu, Rocket, baby Groot, and the Ravagers, 2) A behind-the-scenes featurette of me and the cast working on the forthcoming Guardians attraction at Disneyland, and 3) A special glimpse at a montage of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”
[zerg]Speaking of which, the Ravagers are set to play an integral role in Gunn’s spacefaring sequel, and it’s understood Marvel has recruited Evan Jones, Jimmy Urine, Stephen Blackehart, Steve Agee, Joe Fria and Terence Rosemore to portray the interstellar band of thieves and smugglers.
Perhaps the one casting tidbit that threatened to steal the show, though, was that of Kurt Russell, who is on board as Ego the Living Planet. Not only that, he’s Star-Lord’s father, too, raising all manner of questions that will surely keep fans on tenterhooks right up until the movie’s 2017 release. Sylvester Stallone, meanwhile, is also attached to an as-yet-mysterious role.
Soon after unveiling the all-new logo (see below), the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 featurette reportedly showcased Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista) and a baby Groot (Vin Diesel) in action. Unfortunately, though, it’ll be some time yet before said snippet becomes available to the masses.
Lastly, part of the charm that fired Guardians to international success in 2014 was Awesome Mix Tape Vol. 1 and in keeping up tradition, James Gunn is packing next year’s sequel with plenty of fist-pumping ballads. Two of the tracks confirmed to feature on the soundtrack are “Come a Little Bit Closer,” by Jay and the Americans, along with “The Chain,” by Fleetwood Mac.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2017.
