We’ve waited months – if not years – to catch our first glimpse of Captain Marvel in action. And today, Entertainment Weekly has delivered the goods… and then some.
Up first is the official cover image of Brie Larson in costume as the MCU newbie, and as if that wasn’t enough, EW just dropped a brand new action shot of Captain Marvel in her classic red-and-blue ensemble.
This particular image appears to have been captured close to the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, where much of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s origin movie is said to take place. And Captain Marvel? She’s been described as a deeply flawed human being, one whose temper tends to get the better of her more often than not…
She can’t help but be herself. She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face. She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.
As Brie Larson so rightly points out, Captain Marvel is ostensibly the first of her kind, given the 2019 spinoff takes places in the 1990s – long before Tony Stark forged his first Iron Man suit. That gives her a certain amount of swagger and confidence, which she’ll need to fend off the villainous Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) and his army of shape-shifting aliens, the Skrulls.
Their mission? To invade Earth and make it their own, which leaves Carol Danvers with no choice but to buddy up with an elite Kree military team known as Starforce.
She’s the galaxy’s newest (and most powerful) hero, and we simply can’t wait to see Captain Marvel take flight on March 8th, 2019.
