To mark ten days until the release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has shared a new trailer that reflects on more than a decade of superhero cinema.
While there’s not a huge amount of new footage to be found here, the video does offer a recap of every MCU movie to date, emphasizing the Avengers: Infinity War snap as the moment where it all comes to a head. For some fans, the promo may serve as a reminder to revisit a few of these features before going into next week’s release, though there’s not much time left to marathon the whole 21-film catalogue.
The trailer also contains a callback to one of the most famous lines from 2012’s The Avengers. “Before we’re done, we still have one promise to keep,” an off-camera Tony Stark says. “If we can’t protect the Earth, you can be damn sure we’ll avenge it.”
The nod to Marvel’s Phase 1 finale seems appropriate, given that the saga’s original six heroes are expected to be the focus of Endgame. In particular, fans are excited to see the reunion of the MCU “Trinity” that is Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, who all happen to occupy the final shot of the latest preview. In the background, meanwhile, we see what appears to be the blurry outline of Thanos and his new weapon. Though the Mad Titan ended Infinity War in a pretty happy place, it’s expected that this next outing won’t go quite so swimmingly for the villain, though he might well take a few Phase 1 stars down with him.
In any case, we’ll find out if the old gang can protect the Earth, or at least avenge it, when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
