Coming out of Ant-Man and the Wasp, there’s been a great deal of discussion surrounding Scott Lang’s next steps and how they may affect both Avengers 4 and Captain Marvel.
Spoiler warning: Paul Rudd’s tiny-teeny hero was left stranded in the Quantum Realm by the time the credits rolled on Ant-Man and the Wasp, leaving his fate up for question… sort of. We already know Lang’s been confirmed for Avengers 4, which really begs the question: how is Scott able to escape from the Quantum Realm if his closest allies – namely Hank, Hope, and Janet – have all been dusted by Thanos?
It’s a question Screen Rant hopes to answer with its latest MCU theory, which is all about the mysterious time vortex name-dropped by Janet Van Dyne.
Given Marvel’s history of foreshadowing, there’s a very good reason Janet warned Scott Lang to steer clear of any time vortex, as they have the ability to warp time and space. Couple this with the back-to-back release of Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, two MCU movies that are expected to dabble in the Quantum Realm, and it appears those time vortexes are about to become Marvel’s new MacGuffin. Which is to say that Scott will likely travel through said portal as a means of escaping the Quantum Realm.
SR also harkens back to this extract from a Nerdist article, which attempts to solve the science powering Ant-Man’s suit.
If Ant-Man can shrink down to the smallest of the small, he will enter this nothing, this non-reality. All of time and space will be open to him. He could literally change the universe around him Dr. Manhattan-style. And he could traverse time at will.
So perhaps Pym’s bleeding-edge tech will allow Scott Lang to withstand that time vortex? Not everyone can have the superhuman abilities of Captain Marvel, after all. For now, though, it’s best to file this Avengers 4 theory in the overstuffed rumor cabinet.
