Thanks to the director himself dropping a colossal spoiler weeks ahead of release, The Flash is ripping up the rulebook to expand the DCU’s multiverse to an extent that nobody could have even thought possible.
Of course, the initial announcement that Michael Keaton’s Batman would be returning to the fold after 30 years was jaw-dropping in and of itself, but it would also be fair to say that the most recent confirmation for the cast is by far the most shocking. James Gunn may not have been involved on a creative level, but it’s clear the Scarlet Speedster’s incoming solo debut is ready, willing, and able to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe at its own multiversal game.
With that in mind, all bets are off as to what comes next. Even at that, though, anyone who could have predicted Jason Momoa would be parading around in a makeshift Batman costume as part of a promotional video drumming up interest for the Abu Dhabi tourism industry would most definitely have not been on the bingo card.
It’s ironic that Momoa has decided to embrace the lighter side of DC by channeling his inner Dark Knight when he’s been heavily touted to bow out as Arthur Curry in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, only to be immediately recast and positioned as intergalactic bounty hero Lobo.
Not only that, but he also auditioned for the part of Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before Zack Snyder decided he’d make a much better ruler of Atlantis, so it’s also kind of a full circle moment for the actor in the weirdest possible way.
