This one might hurt ’90s TV drama lovers particularly hard: in a recent interview with EW, actress Neve Campbell admitted she believes that the possibility of a return of the five Salinger siblings in Party of Five isn’t the best idea. Campbell confirmed that a return of the show is definitely not in the works, and nor — in her opinion — should it be.
“I don’t think that would make any sense,” she tells EW, laughing. “We’re all way older! That was a long time ago. We’ve all moved on, we all adore each other, and we’re still friends, but no, I don’t think that would make sense to do a reboot.”
Finally, someone with a little bit of reason in regards to the recent infatuation with reboots and sequel series. Although, Party of Five itself might be one of the least popular of the dramatic TV crazes from that decade, despite its career-starting appearances of actors like Campbell, Matthew Fox, and Jennifer Love-Hewitt.
Campbell also has a hard time forgetting about her other famous alter ego: scream queen Sidney Prescott. She said that there is a possibility of her return to a Scream 5, but with the passing of horror legend — and Scream mastermind — Wes Craven last year, she’s understandably hesitant regarding the slasher franchise’s return.
“Wes was so responsible for the success of it and the brilliance of it, and he was a dear, dear friend and a mentor, and I just don’t know how I would feel at the moment if it came around again,” she explains. “It would have to be something really special and really different. They’d have to be really convincing about who they decided to bring on as director, and I’d still have to do a bit of soul-searching on that one.”
Campbell will return to the small screen, following roles on Mad Men and Welcome to Sweden, in the fourth season of House of Cards. Thankfully, she’s given a far bigger presence on Netflix’s darkly twisted series than in her more recent appearances, and was honestly one of my favorite parts about the new season.
Tell us, what do you think of the idea of a Scream 5 (or should we say Scre5m?) moving forward without Wes Craven? Could it work? Let us know in the comments.
