Ahead of its premiere in late February, Netflix has today revealed the action-packed first trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny, and I hope you’re sitting comfortably.
Taking up the reins from Ang Lee, the sequel formerly known as The Green Legend is directed by Yuen Woo-Ping, the esteemed fight choreographer who served on the original film, and his flair for slick, physics-defying action sequences shines through in today’s first look teaser. Out of the cast that starred in the beloved original, only Michelle Yeoh’s Yu Shu-Lien returns for the direct-to-streaming sequel, who fights with every fibre in her being to prevent a legendary sword from falling into the grubby hands of a malevolent warlord.
Netflix is firmly behind Sword of Destiny, having brokered a deal with The Weinstein Company, though whether feature length sequel can possibly recapture the genre-defining spirit of Lee’s original is still up for question.
Joining Yeoh for the actioner are Donnie Yen as Silent Wolf, Harry Shum Jr. as Tiefang, Jason Scott Lee as Hades Dai, Juju Chan as Silver Dart Shi, Chris Pang as Flying Blade, Darryl Quon as Turtle Ma, Roger Yuan as Iron Crow and Shuya Chang as Jen Yu.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny will premiere exclusively on Netflix come February 26, 2016.
