Gunning to prove that the 2014 sleeper hit wasn’t a one-off fluke, Point Grey Pictures and Universal have premiered the full-length trailer for comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, showcasing outrageous scenes, new cast members and of course, a shirtless Zac Efron.
Arriving off the back of yesterday’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it teaser, today’s sizzling hot sizzle reel is packed to the brim with dick jokes and the kind of ball-busting humor that made the original such a pleasant surprise. But will lightning strike twice?
Chloe Grace Moretz and singer-songstress Selena Gomez are among the newcomers causing all sorts of havoc in Stoller’s sequel, and it’s the former renegade that whips up a storm when she’s recruited to Gomez’ graceful sorority, eventually ripping up the rulebook to form her own party haven in the process.
[zerg]Such a move then forces Mac (Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne) to set aside old differences and unite with Teddy (Efron) and Pete (Franco) to combat the sorority sisters that threaten to disrupt the peace and quiet. There’s a sorority on the rise, and by the looks of things, Mac and Teddy will have their work cut out if they’re to upstage the new kids on the block.
Comedy sequels may be a difficult butterfly to pin, with more dour disappointments smothering any truly novel and funny follow-ups, but what lends Sorority Rising the benefit of the doubt – for now, at least – is that it reunites much of the cast and crew from its predecessor. A worldwide gross north of $270 million may be out of the question, but Universal has welcomed back director Nicholas Stoller, along with Dave Franco, Efron and the equally-topless Seth Rogen.
Prepare for another dose of community shenanigans when Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising lands in theaters on May 20. Lisa Kudrow and Billy Eichner also star.
