Back in 2010, Robert Schwentke‘s graphic novel adaptation RED showcased a phenomenal cast of oldies kicking ass and taking names at full throttle. Starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich as our aged heroes, rumors of a sequel quickly became reality after deserved box office success.
With casting in full swing for Dean Parisot‘s upcoming sequel, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-hun Lee have already been confirmed as additions to the cast and today, we have news on another new actor joining the film.
Comic Book Movie is now reporting that Neal McDonough (Desperate Housewives/Captain America: The First Avenger) can be added to the cast list, playing an unconfirmed role.
Most recently remembered for his light-hearted portrayal of soldier Dum Dum Dugan fighting alongside Captain America, I have a feeling McDonough may go bad for RED 2. Based upon his trademark intimidating demeanor, which is prevelant in almost every character he brings to life and was most recently seen in FX’s Justified, I suspect McDonough will be playing some type of villain or perhaps an imposing government agent. But with the role still unannounced, consider that simply speculation for the time being.
For you RED fans out there, what do you think of the recent RED 2 casting additions? Is the film shaping up to be more exciting than its predecesor?
