Entertainment Weekly has unveiled a new photo for Pablo Larraín’s Jackie, placing Natalie Portman into the role of the former First Lady.

Production continued over the weekend on the Washington D.C. set of the director’s Jacqueline Kennedy biopic, and here we get a glimpse of Portman’s widow covered by a black veil for what we assume to be her late husband’s funeral circa November 22, 1963.

Adapted for the screen by Noah Oppenheim (The Divergent Series: Allegiant, The Maze Runner), Jackie largely revolves around the emotional and political fallout in the days after the assassination of JFK, and today’s sombre new still gives us an indication of Jacqueline’s fractured mindset – portrayed with delicacy by Portman.

Behind the lens, Jackie marks a reunion for Portman and Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, who despite emerging as an early frontrunner to take the reins of the film, remains attached as producer. There he’ll be joined by Protozoa Pictures partners Scott Franklin and Ari Handel.

Oppenheim, meanwhile, is switching gears from YA dystopias to political drama by penning the script for Larraín’s awards-friendly feature, and we’re fascinated to see how both he and the director transition the grief-stricken subject matter onto the silver screen.

Filming first got underway in mid-December 2015, with Fabula Films and LD Entertainment primed to release Jackie at some point in early 2017. Greta Gerwig, Peter Sarsgaard, Max Casella, Beth Grant, and John Hurt also star in Larraín’s real-life drama.
