The Marvel Cinematic Universe is rapidly expanding, with more and more characters being introduced with each passing film. Not only that, but with the lid being completely blown off the cosmic side of this world in recent years, even more doors have now been opened up for various superheroes and villains to make their big screen debuts.
To date, the studio’s been keeping pretty quiet on who else might be waiting in the wings, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 finally gave us that Adam Warlock confirmation we’d all been waiting for. Aside from him though, and Captain Marvel, not too many other major characters have been announced for upcoming films. That hasn’t stopped the rumors from persisting, however, and with Stan Lee recently hinting that Avengers: Infinity War will introduce us to some new fan-favorites, speculation has kicked into overdrive.
Two heroes who constantly find themselves being brought up are Beta Ray Bill and Namor the Sub-Mariner. With the former, it’s really just a matter of time before Marvel introduces him, while the latter is currently tied up in some rights issues. However, it’s been rumored recently that the studio may have sorted all that out, leading many to believe that the House of Ideas is getting ready to give him his own feature film.
To date, there’s still nothing concrete on either character joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but if some props on display at Disneyland’s new Guardians of the Galaxy ride are any indication, that might be about to change.
As you can see in the gallery above, one item that’s being showcased is a hammer. It may not be called Stormbreaker, but it’s referred to as an “Asgardian War Hammer” and is basically the same one Bill wields. The description for it reads: “Originated in the dwarves forge on Nidavellir, this finely crafted object is made of the powerful stone, Uru.” Convinced, yet?
Also in the gallery is a photo of what are labelled “Mysterious Artifacts,” the description for which tells us that they “were found at the bottom of the Terran ocean and very little is known of the civilization that created them.” Again, nothing in there explicitly mentions the hero, in this case Namor, but it doesn’t take a genius to put two and two together. Clearly, the civilization being referred to is Atlantis, which is where the Sub-Mariner hails from.
Of course, this is all just speculation on the part of fans, but given how much we’ve heard about these two characters lately, combined with the fact that Marvel is teasing them here, leads us to believe that the studio is getting ready to introduce both Beta Ray Bill and Namor the Sub-Mariner into the MCU. When they’ll make their debuts is hard to say, as we don’t imagine it’d be until after Avengers: Infinity War at the earliest, but something tell us they’ll be amongst the next group of heroes who are added into the franchise. Especially once the old guard (Cap, Iron Man, Thor, etc.) are “phased out,” which will likely be in the next few years.
That’s just our opinion, though. What do you think? Are Namor and Bill on their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Head to the comments section and let us know!
