Halloween 2017 may belong to Jigsaw, or so Lionsgate would have you believe, but there’s another horror icon set to reemerge next month: Chucky.
Yes, everyone’s favorite killer doll will return via Don Mancini’s Cult of Chucky in three weeks’ time, a direct-to-video sequel that’s said to tie together most, if not all of the major story events littered across the previous three entries in the Child’s Play franchise: Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky and Curse of Chucky.
And so, to generate excitement about what comes next, the Powers That Be have been rolling out a series of motion posters via Twitter that essentially line up Chucky’s next victims. Among them is Nica Pierce from Curse, along with franchise stalwarts Andy Barclay and Tiffany. Each features a caption written from the perspective from Chucky himself, so all four Tweets are as flippant as you would expect:

Story-wise, this is very much Don Mancini’s Chucky gig, who directs from his own script. A long-time pillar of the Child’s Play franchise, there is perhaps no one better equipped to deliver the seventh instalment in this cult horror series, and in light of today’s deluge of motion posters, October 3rd can’t come soon enough.
Here’s a rundown of the story:
Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.
Unrated and, quite frankly, unhinged, Cult of Chucky scurries onto Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on October 3rd. If you’re wanting to go all-in on the Chucky experience, look no further than the comprehensive, 7-Movie Collection.
