Mary Harron will probably always be known for writing/directing American Psycho. The film to this day remains a unique piece of work. Her new film on the other hand doesn’t look all that interesting. It’s called The Moth Diaries and it stars Sarah Bolger, Sarah Gadon, Lily Cole and Scott Speedman.
It looks like another generic vampire film that’s primarily focused towards teenage girls. I’m not specifically talking about the Twilight crowd, but the women looking for something a little more edgy. The trailer doesn’t do anything to grab your attention, often relying on quick cuts of something brooding in the background. It’s formula horror 101 and it honestly doesn’t look the least bit interesting.
The Moth Diaries is scheduled to open on April 20th, 2012.

Adolescence is and always will be a time of intense emotional confusion, especially if you spend it in a closed environment. That’s the case with Rebecca, a young girl haunted by her father’s suicide, who is a student at an exclusive female boarding school. She pours her heart out in a diary, much of it focused on Lucy, her beloved roommate. Their relationship changes drastically with the arrival of a mysterious new student, Ernessa. As Lucy abandons her for this new girl, Rebecca becomes consumed with thoughts of jealousy and suspicion — Ernessa is dangerous, evil, a vampire. Is there any truth to all this or is Rebecca slipping into insanity?
