Monsters University Adds Several New Cast Members

Monsters University is shaping up to be another hit for animation juggernaut Pixar. The first film, Monsters, Inc., was an excellent animated effort that featured two loveable characters in Billy Crystal's Mike and John Goodman's Sulley. Monsters University is shaping up to be another hit for animation juggernaut Pixar. The first film, Monsters, Inc., was an excellent animated effort that featured two loveable characters in Billy Crystal’s Mike and John Goodman’s Sulley. For the prequel though, it looks like they’ll be joined by a whole host of fresh faces, with actors like Dave Foley, Helen Mirren, Aubrey Plaza, Alfred Molina and more coming on board to help voice the new additions.

Now, the film has added three more cast members as Nathan Fillion, John Krasinski and Bonnie Hunt (who appeared in the first film but in a different role) have joined. Fillion will be playing a horned monster named Johnny Worthington, Krasinski is set to play Frightening Frank McCay, a “scaring superstar” and Hunt will voice Mike’s grade school teacher. In addition to the casting news, EW has given us two new images from the film, which can be seen below.

Directed by Dan Scanlon, who is making his feature directorial debut, the film will act as a prequel and show us how “how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends during their days at Monsters University.”

Personally, I’m really looking forward to this film. It’s hard to go wrong with Pixar, though lately they haven’t been too hot (I didn’t enjoy Brave or Cars 2). That being said, they have provided some of the best animated films of all time and Monsters, Inc. is one of my favorite efforts from the studio. I love that they’re bringing in all this talent for the prequel and so far, I think things are shaping up very well.

Monsters University will be arriving in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on June 21st. What do you think of the new cast members? Are you looking forward to the film? Let us know in the comments below
