Mission: Impossible 5 Filming Inside The Houses Of Parliament?

It's been three years since Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol hit theaters, but Tom Cruise's latest starring vehicle, sci-fi actioner Edge of Tomorrow, was good enough that it actually got me thinking about the upcoming Mission: Impossible 5 for the first time in a good long while. Today, we've learned something about the upcoming fivequel that will no doubt excite the franchise's British fans.

It’s been three years since Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol hit theaters, but Tom Cruise’s latest starring vehicle, sci-fi actioner Edge of Tomorrow, was good enough that it actually got me thinking about the upcoming Mission: Impossible 5 for the first time in a good long while. Today, we’ve learned something about the upcoming fivequel that will no doubt excite the franchise’s British fans.

According to the sometimes-reliable British newspaper The Sun, Mission: Impossible 5 will be the first film that has ever been allowed to shoot scenes within the British Houses of Parliament. According to the newspaper:

“MI5 will feature numerous well-known locations in London but the Houses of Parliament is clearly the biggest coup. Tom Cruise will obviously feature heavily in the scenes. You can imagine the writers are excited about what stunts they could pull off inside the Commons.”

Mission: Impossible 5 will re-team Cruise’s Ethan Hunt with his Ghost Protocol team – gadget whizz Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), analyst William Brandt and femme fatale Jane Carter (Paula Patton). Additionally, Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain has been in talks for a role. Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) will direct from a script originally by Drew Pearce but that is being rewritten by Will Staples.

It’s exciting to hear that Mission: Impossible 5 is finally moving out of development. The franchise had a weak third entry, but Ghost Protocol was the best of the series, filled with spectacular action sequences, a globe-trotting plot and a terrific cast of characters. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing whether the fifth film can strike that same balance yet again. And if Chastain, a tremendously talented actress, is on board as a love interest for Cruise, that’s just one more reason to be excited for the flick.

Mission: Impossible 5 will hit theaters on December 25th, 2015.
