Though Peter Parker is the one most often associated with Spider-Man, there’s been other versions of the iconic hero as well over the years. One particular fan favorite is undoubtedly Miles Morales, who first made his debut in 2011 as the Ultimate edition of the character shortly after Peter’s death. Though all of the live-action films we’ve had thus far have featured the Parker version of Spidey, Miles will finally get his due in Sony’s animated Spider-Man movie coming in 2018. But does that mean we’ll never see Morales in the MCU?
Apparently not. While chatting with Screen Crush to promote the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, producer Kevin Feige teased that the other version of the hero does indeed exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, noting that he’s “there somewhere.”
“In the meantime, I think Miles is a big part of the animated movie that Sony’s making,” the studio exec said. “But where we go… we definitely want you to go ‘[Miles] is there. He’s there somewhere.’”
This comment follows on from what Homecoming star Tom Holland said recently, which is that he’d love to see Morales show up at some point and get the chance to have Peter Parker mentor him like he’s being mentored by Iron Man in the upcoming film. We’d have to agree with him there, and it’s great to learn that Miles does exist, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll see him in the flesh. At least, not anytime soon.
Likely, Feige’s confirmation here is simply to open the door for the character to show up one day. After all, we now know that Donald Glover is playing Aaron Davis in Homecoming. Comic book fans will be familiar with that name as he’s Miles’ uncle and played a key role in the boy taking on the Spider-Man mantle. As such, it makes perfect sense for the fan favorite character to exist in the MCU.
Whether we actually get to see Morales on the big screen or not is another matter entirely, but given how popular he is, we’re sure that Marvel has plans to introduce him somewhere down the line. If they didn’t, then why include Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming? Surely he’s there to plant a seed for his nephew to appear at some point, right?
One way or another, we’ll find out soon enough, as Jon Watts’ reboot opens July 7th.
