With a whopping five post-credit scenes, it’s clear that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a lot of surprises in store for us. However, one of the biggest mysteries right now is who former Smallville star (and longtime friend of James Gunn) Michael Rosenbaum could be playing in the sequel.
It was earlier this week that we learned Sylvester Stallone will be showing up in the film as Stakar Ogord, a character best known as Starhawk to fans of the comic books. Gunn has previously said that Rosenbaum’s character will be linked to him in some way, with the likes of Nova and Quasar suggested as likely possibilities.
Whether those guesses are correct will be revealed shortly, but in the meantime, Rosenbaum has weighed in on his “important” role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
“Well, I’m in the movie. And I can’t really say the role I’m playing ’cause James [Gunn] swore me to secrecy. It’s with Stallone. It’s an important role. I’m not allowed to say anything other than that. I can’t wait to see it. I haven’t seen it. I’ve been waiting a year to be able to say something. So it’s really exciting. I’m really excited to be here. The fans are awesome. They are all around. Yeah. This is incredible. So I’ll see it for the first time, too. I’m not going to tell you what I look like, either. You’re just going to have to see the movie. I don’t have to shave my head again, so that’s good.”
That’s very intriguing indeed and it definitely sounds like Rosenbaum will be sporting a costume or prosthetics. Both him and Stallone are expected to be big parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward, so we could see them again as soon as Avengers: Infinity War and probably in the now confirmed Vol. 3.
Rosenbaum was an excellent Lex Luthor in Smallville, but like many television actors, he’s struggled to make the leap from the small to big screen. With any luck, a role in the MCU is going to change that, especially with all the signs pointing to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 being a massive hit once it arrives next month.
