MTV is telling us that Michael Peña has joined Gangster Squad, the upcoming film from Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer. He’ll join an already fantastic cast that includes Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling. Pena’s role is currently unknown but it will likely be substantial.
The film follows “Gosling and Brolin as cops who hunt down Penn, playing Los Angeles mob kingpin Mickey Cohen.” Sounds pretty fantastic if you ask me. Makes me curious as to which side Pena will be on though, mobster or cop? What do you think?
No matter which side he’s on, Pena will bring a lot to the film. He’s an underrated actor who consistently gives strong performances. My favorite film of his is Crash but he’s done other admirable work in films like Shooter and World Trade Center.
Personally, I’m really looking forward to Gangster Squad. The prospect of seeing Gosling and Brolin teaming up to bring down Penn is just too good to pass up. Don’t you think?
Also, on a side note, Fleischer told MTV that he’s still hoping to do Zombieland 2 and most of the original cast is hoping to return. Excited? I am!
