Michael Fassbender’s reputation as one of the busiest bees in Hollywood looks set to continue today after reports surfaced linking the X-Men: Apocalypse and Macbeth star with the lead part in Tomas Alfredson’s The Snowman.
Once a Martin Scorsese gig, the Tinker Tailor Solider Spy helmer took the reins of the adaptation late last year, and it seems that the project is finally beginning to build some momentum. First picked up by The Hollywood Reporter, it’s understood that Fassbender is in contention to star as a detective, who sets out to solve a perplexing murder in the Norwegian capital of Oslo.
Acting as the 7th chapter in author Jo Nesbo’s sprawling Harry Hole series, The Snowman revolves around a string of unexplained disappearances that happen to occur on the first day that snow falls on the city. Stumbling upon this most unusual pattern, Fassbender’s detective begins to piece together the missing fragments of the puzzle, and faces a race against time to stop the title killer before another Oslo citizen (Sylvia Pedersen) becomes just another victim.
Here’s the official logline from Nesbo’s acclaimed novel:
It is November in Oslo and the first snow of the year has fallen. Birte Becker comes home from work and praises the snowman her husband and son have made in the garden. But they haven’t made a snowman. As the family stand by the sitting room window looking out in amazement at the snowman, the son notices that it is facing the house. The black eyes are staring at the window. At them.
Alfredson’s big-screen rendition of The Snowman is still a ways away from release, though Michael Fassbender can next be seen in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic as the titular, flawed visionary on October 9.
