In a comparison we can’t really comprehend because it doesn’t make sense in our brains, Kevin Eastman, the co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has compared the upcoming Michael Bay-produced movie version as being like The Avengers. And by making such a comparison we hope he isn’t expecting it to make a billion dollars at the box office, because we very much doubt that will happen without establishing characters in five other solo installments first. That’s how this works, Eastman.
Here’s what he had to say:
“All the intentions are in the right place. I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it. I think it’s going to be a fantastic film. [Director] Jonathan Liebesman is going to make a great film. From what I’ve seen of the script, it’s fantastic. Michael Bay has made some great and intense movies. We’re talking about being inspired by movies like The Avengers for scope and roots origin and The Raid: Redemption for fight scenes and Rise of the [Planet of] the Apes as far as computer-quality style.”
So, yes, of course, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is going to be a combination of the three movies we obviously knew it would be, including The Raid: Redemption, which makes perfect sense. And although the production recently found itself delayed because Michael Bay wanted to work on the script longer (utterly shocking, we know), this thing is supposed to find its way into theatres in around 2014. Let’s hope they do the scene in The Raid when a bunch of guys are blown up by a gas tank in a fridge and burned alive and stuff. That’s so Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
What do you think? Does this sound like a combination of influences that might work? Let us know in the comments section below.
