The Playlist is telling us that Mia Wasikowska and Zoe Aggeliki are in the mix for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Lately, there has been a ton of buzz as to who will play Finnick Odair in the film and while casting is still going on for the role, now we’re hearing about another role, that of Johanna Mason, which like Finnick, is a fairly big part.
Both Wasikowska and model/actress Zoe Aggeliki have been in discussions for the role but apparently the studio is leaning towards the latter. That being said, nothing is official just yet and as of now, it could go to either of the actresses.
While you may be familiar with Wasikowska, Aggeliki isn’t as big a name. She’ll be seen next year in R.I.P.D and also has a role in the upcoming film Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters but currently, she doesn’t have much of a profile.
Personally, I don’t have a preference here. I’m not at all familiar with Aggeliki and I don’t care much for Wasikowska, though she was quite good in The Kids Are All Right, which also starred Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson.
I’m actually a bit surprised that the studio isn’t going for a bigger, more mainstream name. They can get just about any actress they want for the role and if they do indeed settle on Wasikowska or Aggeliki, I’ll be a bit surprised.
Like I said though, nothing is certain but we’ll be sure to keep you posted on any updates that arise.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will head into production later this year for a November 22, 2013 release date.
