Right now, the hype levels are higher than ever for Avengers: Endgame, but once the Russo Brothers’ upcoming film has brought the MCU’s current era to a close, fans will be left with the question of what comes next.
Of course, one future project that you’re likely well aware of by now is Spider-Man: Far From Home, which comes out July 5th, and even got its first trailer back in January. Beyond that, however, Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce any further films, leaving it to various reports from recent months to fill us in.
After the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel has completed the MCU’s 2019 cinematic slate, it’s expected that the next feature on the agenda will be the Black Widow solo movie. Cate Shortland’s spy flick is one of two Marvel movies that are apparently hitting theaters in 2020, the second being Chloé Zhao’s The Eternals. After that, Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2 and Shang-Chi are reportedly on the way, and all three are thought to be aiming for 2021 release slots.
The last project we can confirm to be on the schedule is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is said to start production in 2021. Beyond that, things get a little more mysterious, though now that Captain Marvel has crossed the billion-dollar mark, we can safely assume that Carol Danvers is getting a second solo outing.
Of course, what many Marvel fans are really hoping for is the announcement of an X-Men or Fantastic Four movie, though if recent statements from Kevin Feige are anything to go by, then it could be “a very long time” before we see any Fox characters in the MCU. In the meantime, we’ll find out what kind of world Marvel’s Phase 4 is inheriting when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
