The rumours circulating in recent months have been confirmed. McG will saddle up to direct Kevin Costner in the unnamed thriller produced and co-written by Luc Besson. In earlier reports the film was affixed with the title Three Days To Kill but Relativity Media, the studio behind the production, announced today that the project is now without a moniker.
Costner will lead the film as Secret Service Agent Ethan Runner, who upon the verge of retirement wishes to reconcile with his family. Oh dear, it’s probably not going to work out though is it?
Here’s the full synopsis from the Relativity press release:
“The thriller explores a story about Secret Service Agent Ethan Runner who discovers he’s dying and decides to retire in order to reconnect with his estranged family. But when the Secret Service offers him access to an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment, he soon finds himself trying to juggle his family, his mission, and the drug’s hallucinatory side-effects.”
Co-written by Adi Hasak (From Paris With Love), this outline sounds a bit like Taken meets Jacob’s Ladder meets all those “It’s my last day at work, I hope to goodness gracious nothing out of the ordinary happens” thrillers.
McG’s latest has the potential to relaunch Costner back onto the big screen after his recent Emmy win for Hatfields & McCoys and to revive himself after the lacklustre This Means War. Will it accomplish either of those things though? Only time will tell.
What do you reckon to the teaming up of Kevin Costner and McG? Recipe for greatness? Have your say in the comments below.
