It’s long been theorized that Avengers: Endgame will feature time travel in some form or another. After all, we’ve seen numerous set pictures that appear to show the characters returning to the Battle of New York, all of which depict them wearing a strange device on their wrist which many assume can transport them back in time.
Now, we have one more bit of evidence to chuck on the pile, and that’s that the cast list for the movie on IMDb features two interesting extras: Monica Mathis appearing as “70s Car Girl #1” and Miles Webb as “70’s Scientist/Lab Worker.” While I know that listings on the site are never the gospel truth, it does seem strange that someone would add the roles of two unknown extras to the film, doesn’t it?
But why would our heroes travel as far back in time as the 70s (well, that or there’s a flashback to the 70s)? Let’s have a look at what was going on in the MCU back then and see if we can work it out.
Some notable dates we’ve picked out are May 29th, 1970, when Tony Stark was born to Howard and Maria, Armin Zola being transferred to a supercomputer in 1972, the Stark Expo 74 from Iron Man 2 and Ego arriving on Earth on November 7th, 1979 where he meets Peter Quill’s mother Meredith. Of those, I think the Stark related ones might bear more fruit. After all, if the rumors are true and Tony Stark doesn’t make it to the credits of Endgame, then a focus on his tangled family history could be very touching.
Whatever happens, our heroes are going to have to pull off something seriously impressive in order to undo Thanos’ snap. Doctor Strange explained in Infinity War that he’d seen 14 million possible ways that the battle could go and the Mad Titan’s only defeated in one of them. Assuming that he realized the only way to set our characters down this path was to sacrifice himself and the Time Stone, we should see some seriously crazy shit in Avengers: Endgame. Let’s just hope we get another trailer soon that sheds some light on everything.
