After orchestrating a Secret Service and inviting moviegoers into the Golden Circle, it seems writer-director Matthew Vaughn is gearing up to complete his boisterous Kingsman trilogy.
Word comes by way of CBR, revealing that Vaughn has “got plans” for a potential trilogy-capper, which isn’t all that surprising when you consider that the director has always envisioned Kingsman as a three-film arc.
There is one potential headache, though: since The Golden Circle‘s release, Matthew Vaughn has opened talks to helm Man of Steel 2 for Warner Bros., but with news of an internal shake-up coming out of Justice League, we imagine it’ll be some time yet before Clark Kent’s next solo adventure takes flight.
Couple this with the fact that Vaughn and his team were able to engineer two Kingsman movies in the space of three years, give or take, and the director may find time on his busy schedule to reunite Eggsy and the gang. Here’s that quote from Kingsman visual effects supervisor, Angus Bickerton:
We’ve had the briefest of conversations with Matthew [Vaughn] about it…he’s got plans.
Not exactly one to stop the presses, but certainly enough to keep hopes of a Kingsman 3 alive. Truth be told, The Golden Circle failed to hit the dizzying heights of its predecessor – even if the box office numbers said otherwise – so let’s hope Vaughn and Co. are given the encore they deserve.
Elsewhere, the filmmaker hinted at the possibility of spinoff movies back in September:
I think there’s a story in my head which will be finished by the end of the next one. And then after that then, of course, there could be Statesman movies, there could be spinoff character films. The universe could continue with new agents. Or, you know, Colin (Firth) could become Arthur (…) or new characters could come in. Or new kids get trained. There’s so many options, but I also think it’s better not to be too greedy.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is now available on Blu-ray and DVD, meaning you can take home Eggsy and the gang in time for Christmas. Beyond that, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Vaughn’s sequel (and spinoff?) plans as time wears on.
