Keanu Reeves is really having himself a hot boy summer. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is arguably the best of the franchise so far, the long-awaited Bill & Ted Face the Music is currently underway and the Internet has once again remembered how much they love America’s favorite action star. Now, it’s been announced that Matrix 4 is officially happening with Reeves once again reprising his most iconic role as Neo.
The fourth installment of the legendary franchise will team the 54-year-old actor up with Carrie-Anne Moss for another outing, who played Trinity in the original trilogy. There’d been a fear that any new installment would feature entirely new characters, but thankfully, it doesn’t sound like that will be the case here. It’s currently unknown who else from the previous movies will be returning, but fans can only hope that Laurence Fishburne will be appearing once again as Morpheus.
Lana Wachowski of the famed Wachowski filmmaking duo, will be back to both write and direct the fourth movie set in the world she helped create with her sister. It’s unknown what role, if any, Lilly will have in the production of this flick, as the latter sibling has since taken a break from creating. However, she may want to return to take part in this venture. After all, The Matrix is what helped put her family on the map.
Lana helped pen the script for this new project with the assistance of Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell, with Grant Hill producing. Sources say the movie is eyed to begin production at the top of 2020, which could mean that audiences will get to see it later that year or some time in 2021.
In any case, fans of the series will likely be counting down the days until Reeves and Moss can take them back to that unique universe and as soon as more news about Matrix 4 breaks, we’ll be sure to let you know.
