“We lost – all of us. We lost friends, we lost family, we lost a part of ourselves… this is the fight of our lives.”
Avengers: Endgame is far and away the biggest movie of 2019. It is, on one hand, the direct follow-up to Marvel’s Infinity War, a gargantuan production in its own right, while also being the conclusive chapter in Phase 3.
What comes next will largely be determined by Spider-Man: Far From Home and everything thereafter – think Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2 and the inevitable sequel to Captain Marvel – though tonight Marvel Studios peeled back the curtain ever so slightly to showcase another snippet from Avengers: Endgame. And it’s every bit as tantalizing as you might expect.
Indeed, if the first teaser shunned action for emotion by focusing on the immediate aftermath of The Decimation, tonight’s Super Bowl stinger opens up the canvas somewhat to offer a better look at Joe and Anthony Russo’s intricate blockbuster, even if it keeps thing pretty short.
If it’s concrete plot details you’re after, this Avengers: Endgame spot hasn’t got them; instead, what we have is another carefully crafted teaser for what’s undoubtedly 2019’s most-anticipated movie. And if it helps keep spoilers at bay, we’re fully behind Marvel’s marketing strategy.
But can it propel Endgame to the dizzying box office heights (read: $2 billion) of Infinity War? It’s certainly possible, given the huge amount of goodwill that Marvel Studios has earned ever since Tony Stark first took flight in 2008. And now, more than 10 years after Iron Man’s maiden voyage, the story is nearing an end.
“Don’t be upset – part of the journey is the end.” Look for Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Endgame to make history on April 26th.
