Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige let it slip during a press conference for The Avengers that the development of an Ant-Man film, which has been in the works for the last eight years, is “closer than ever.”

“It’s somewhere,” Feige said. “I’ll just say it’s closer than it’s ever been in its long maybe eight year history and I usually email Edgar every two or three days… we are not closer than we’ve ever been. So I hope it will come together shortly.”

Writers Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish have been working the script for many years now and Feige is in constant communication with them regarding the project. We’ve been hearing tiny bits of news regarding the film here and there but now it seems that finally, there might be a tangible draft ready to go sooner than they had expected, which is a great news.

“Closer than ever” could obviously mean a ton of different things but with the recent fad of superhero films taking over the box office, I don’t think Marvel will be dwelling on this one for much longer, especially now that they have The Avengers out the door. Hopefully we’ll see it within the next year or two, I think that’s a safe bet.

The Ant-Man comic revolves around a man that was originally a scientist before he decided to shrink himself down to the size of an ant and control the ant population with a specially designed helmet. The character was also part of the original Avengers crew, but seems to have a knack for change – evolving to include other aliases as well.

Who do you think should play the Ant-Man? Let us know in the comments.
