David Morrissey is most known for his fan favorite turn as the Governor in TV’s The Walking Dead, but a new rumor points to him potentially finding a role in another comic book franchise adapted for the screen. The biggest one there is, in fact: the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Insider Roger Wardell, whose information has proved reliable in the past, shared on Twitter the news that Marvel Studios are apparently big fans of the English actor and are looking over multiple roles to find the best one for him in the upcoming Phase Four.
We’ve already got the feeling that at least someone in Marvel’s casting department likes TWD, as two stars of the franchise have shown up in key roles in the franchise. Namely, Danai Gurira as Black Panther‘s Okoye – whose MCU commitments have led to her quitting the AMC show after she appears for a few episodes in the tenth season – and Ross Marquand, who took over the role of Red Skull from Hugo Weaving in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
As audiences know him best as the villainous Phillip Blake, we’re left to wonder if Marvel’s seeking Morrissey to play an antagonist or wants to cast him as a more heroic character, or perhaps a key supporting role. A few of the movies Morrissey could find himself a part of include Doctor Strange 2, Captain Marvel 2 or potentially Shang-Chi. The Eternals and Black Widow seem to have got their cast lists sorted already, so we can likely rule those out.
That is, assuming Marvel wants Morrissey to appear in one of their films. After all, the studio’s also providing a lot of new TV shows, which will closely tie into the movies, for Disney Plus over the coming years. The star has previously had much more experience in television than on the silver screen, so a small screen role is a definite possibility.
It looks like we’ll just have to wait for more information on this front, but in the meantime, tell us, what Marvel role would you like to see David Morrissey play? Let us know in the comments section down below.
