After 10 years and 19 movies – Avengers: Infinity War included – the Marvel Cinematic Universe is basically synonymous with post-credits scenes that act as a nice little set up for the next chapter in the studio’s blockbuster franchise. Or, in the case of Guardians of the Galaxy, revealing a happy little sapling so that we leave the theater with a smile on our face.
But the grim climax of Infinity War deserved something a little more understated, and sure enough, the post-credits scene featured Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill falling victim to Thanos’ devastating snap, which destroyed half of all life in the universe. That includes the two former S.H.I.E.L.D agents, as well. But before he left us and vanished into thin air, Fury was able to send a message for help, one that goes out to none other than Captain Marvel.
It’s a great tease for what’s to come, and now, you can relive it over and over again as the studio’s released it online in glorious HD for your viewing pleasure. And after watching it a few more times ourselves, we must say, it truly is one of the MCU’s most tantalizing post-credits scenes.
As for how Carol Danvers will fit in with the likes or Iron Man and Thor, well, we’re not sure quite yet, but we’ve heard that Captain Marvel’s power level is off the scale in comparison to the rest of the Avengers, meaning she’ll certainly be a useful ally to have on their side when they take the fight to the Mad Titan. Not to mention she might actually be the key to ending him once and for all, if recent rumors are to be believed.
If you’re still wondering why Fury and Carol communicate via this clunky handheld device, by the way, rather than a standard cell phone, that’s because Captain Marvel will reveal that Carol first became a superhero back in the 1990s. Presumably, we’ll also see her pull a Wonder Woman and retire from active world-saving duty for a long period of time until she’s really needed, which is, of course, at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
