Somehow, the 2015 Oscar race is already looking almost as promising as this fall’s. David O. Russell will be reteaming with his Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle star Jennifer Lawrence for the biopic Joy, Alejandro González Iñárritu will finally unveil his Tom Hardy/Leonardo DiCaprio revenge thriller The Revenant, Steven Spielberg will be in the mix with an untitled Cold War thriller set to star Tom Hanks and Scott Cooper is also set to release his Whitey Bulger pic Black Mass, which stars Johnny Depp and Joel Edgerton. Now, we’ve got another exciting addition to the latter half of 2015 – Martin Scorsese’s Silence is being tentatively planned for release next November.

After years in development as one of Scorsese’s dream projects, Silence is finally gearing up to shoot later this year, and Paramount is gunning for U.S. distribution rights. Should Paramount land the movie, as seems likely, the studio wants to set it for November 2015.

Of course, Silence meeting that date will depend on Scorsese getting all the pieces to fall into place quickly, and the director is famously vocal about not wanting to be rushed when it comes to making movies – The Wolf of Wall Street almost got delayed last fall over concerns that Scorsese and editor Thelma Schoonmaker wouldn’t be able to get a final cut of the film ready in time. Here’s hoping we get to see Silence soon, though, as it sounds fantastic.

Set to star Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, Ken Watanabe and Adam Driver, Silence will adapt the book by Shusaku Endo, which centered on two 17th-century Jesuit priests who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan, hoping to locate their mentor and spread Christianity. Silence was originally set to film later this month, but it’s unclear if that’s still the plan. Regardless, it seems certain that this movie is finally going to get made. And with that cast and Scorsese at the helm, we’ll be sure to keep our ear to the ground for more on Silence.
