This week, Jamie Foxx will make his return to the big screen in Sleepless. Though it admittedly looks like a rather generic crime thriller – and has been dumped in January, which isn’t an encouraging sign – it’ll be nice to see the Oscar winner back in theatres. The actor’s been taking it easy lately, not having starred in a film since 2014’s mediocre Annie. It seems that he’s now back in full force though, with several exciting projects on his slate that we’re definitely looking forward to.
One of those happens to be a biopic about Mike Tyson. Believe it or not, the iconic boxing legend has never really had a notable feature film made about his life, despite it being quite ripe for cinematic adaptation. However, Foxx is looking to change all that. For a while now we’ve heard that he’d be starring in the proposed biopic and in a recent interview with Screen Rant, he confirmed that everything is still a go.
[zergpaid]Martin Scorsese remains on board to direct, according to Foxx, and Terence Winter will pen the script. That’s a dynamic trio of talent right there and will no doubt result in a knockout of a film (pun intended). None of these men are strangers to biopics, with Foxx having won Oscar gold for Ray and Marty and Terence having collaborated on The Wolf of Wall Street. Plus, there’s also the fact that Scorsese has already proven his talent for shooting boxing films with the legendary Raging Bull. All things considered, this Mike Tyson biopic should turn out to be something truly spectacular.
As for when it will all come together, well, it’s hard to say. All three men are busy individuals, but with Scorsese’s Sinatra biopic falling apart recently, perhaps he’ll get around to making this one sooner rather than later. We’ll keep you posted once we hear more, but as of right now, we’d say that this is one film you’ll want to keep an eye on as it continues to develop.
