Mark Strong is the latest actor to be rumored for the role of Lex Luthor in the upcoming Man of Steel 2. After hearing a few weeks ago that director Zack Snyder and writer David S. Goyer were signed on for a sequel to their Superman flick, the rumors started to swirl. The film is set to be released sometime in 2014 but aside from that, we don’t really know too much about what Snyder and co. have in store for us.
According to CosmicBookNews, Strong is being eyed for the role of the titular hero’s arch-nemesis. To be honest, it sounds quite plausible but there is absolutely nothing in the way of official confirmation to support this and until there is, we’ll file it under the rumor section.
I say it’s plausible because Strong has a history with Warner Bros. (Sherlock Holmes, Green Lantern) and because he’s quite good at playing the villain. In fact, I could totally see him as Lex Luthor and would be 100% behind this casting choice.
Really, the only problem I foresee is that Strong already appeared in another DC Comics film, Green Lantern. Depending on what Warner Bros. decides to do with the Green Lantern property, as well as how they decide to integrate the character into their future Justice League film, this may or may not be a problem. That being said, I think it would still lead to a bit of confusion and despite the fact that Strong would do well in the role, it probably wouldn’t be the best decision.
