In a case of superhero inception, it turns out that Mark Ruffalo and Brie Larson have co-starred in a movie together before Avengers: Endgame. But here’s the Marvel-level plot twist: Ruffalo had no idea about it. Not a clue.
Welcome to the club, Hulk…neither did I nor half the world’s population. See what I did there?
In a quick red carpet chat with Entertainment Tonight at the LA premiere of Endgame, ET’s Kevin Frazier asked Ruffalo about Larson being in 13 Going On 30. The Strongest Avenger said he had no clue she was in the movie, and his reaction to her being one of the “mean girls” in the film was pretty funny:
“She was a mean girl. Oh my god, that’s amazing! Wow, I didn’t know that. It looks like her a lot. It’s her.”
The 2004 romantic comedy also starred Jennifer Garner, who started off as a 13-year-old girl. She aspired to be like a group of girls in her school who were named the Six Chicks, but it had some interesting consequences. Pretty Little Liars‘ Ashley Benson and Chicago Fire‘s Brittany Curran were in the group alongside the future Captain Marvel and at one point, Garner’s character gets upset, hides in a closet and comes out 30-years-old. And then…well, that’s about all I remember.
I do, however, recall it being a clean, cute flick with some good messages for children. Choose your role models wisely, because they might be mean. Don’t try too hard to be popular, you might turn out mean. And don’t grow up too fast; you know, like 17 years in 1 second.
Anyways, Ruffalo’s final comment in the interview shows just how many people work on one movie, and how they may never meet:
“We didn’t work together…that was a lovely little movie. I didn’t get to work with her.”
Here’s to another post-Avengers: Endgame team-up between Brie Larson and Mark Ruffalo in the future.
