Marisa Tomei Is Disappointed This Spider-Man: Homecoming Scene Was Cut

Spider-Man: Homecoming is now out across the globe and has proven to be another success for Marvel Studios, as well as a massive return to form for Sony's Spider-Man franchise. Most agree that it's a brilliantly-made movie which delivers a great mix of character-based and fan-pleasing moments. An interesting scene that would have shone a new light on one of the characters was cut though, and it's left a certain member of the cast upset.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, Marisa Tomei revealed the deleted scene featuring her character Aunt May which she wished had made it into the film.

“There was something going on in the neighborhood, and there was a little girl in distress, and I saved her. And Peter saw me save her, so you kind of saw that he got part of his ethics from her.

Then I come home, and I don’t even tell him that that’s what happened, and, of course, there’s all this stuff that he’s not telling me. So he’s like, ‘How was your day?’ And I’m like, ‘It was fine,’ but really I was shaking inside because of this whole crisis that had happened in the city. I’m kind of fibbing to him, and he’s fibbing to me, and we’re living in this house together, and it was a very interesting setup. I was quite disappointed that wasn’t in there.”

We can understand why Tomei was disappointed. This sounds like a great scene which would have framed Peter and May as more similar people than we might think. Plus, Tomei was terrific in the movie, so any additional scenes with her would have been welcome.

That said, it’s likely that May’s role in these films will only increase going forward. After all, at the end of Homecoming, she discovered Peter’s secret identity. In the sequel, then, May can certainly be a bigger part of her nephew’s life.
