Harley Quinn herself, Margot Robbie has weighed in on the deleted scenes from Suicide Squad – specifically those involving both her and Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime.
Word comes by way of Tipsy Talk (via Cinema Blend), where the so-hot-right-now actress sat down to talk all things Task Force X. Bearing in mind that reports coming out of Warner Bros.’ production have revealed some degree of internal strife, with the studio seemingly pushing ahead with its own alternate cut, Suicide Squad launched late last week into the thick of a social media storm – and that’s before you even factor in the scathing reviews.
[zerg]Perhaps one of the most pressing issues for ardent fans was those scenes that remained on the cutting room floor. There were quite a few, too, with everything from the Joker’s “I can’t wait to show you my toys” line to more intimate scenes involving Leto’s maniac and Margot Robbie failing to be included in the final cut.
Here, the actress sheds some light on the creative thinking behind the decision to reshuffle some of Suicide Squad‘s important scenes – or cut them out altogether.
They probably realized that the emotional through line of the story had to be the mission we were on, and kind of explaining The Enchantress’s position and all of that kind of stuff. And the backstory stuff is like magic. Some of the stuff we shot is insane. They are flashbacks, and they’re meant to be snippets, but I think when we were filming maybe we got too engrossed into flashbacks. Especially when you got Jared [Leto], he’s going so deep with that character and we’re all like going really, really deep. David [Ayer] goes really deep with the characters. Yeah, so there’s a lot, but it didn’t make sense to confuse the current and present storyline to incorporate all of that.
Suicide Squad is out now in theaters and has even managed to set a new box office record for the month of August.
