Man Of Steel 2 Not Coming Anytime Soon, If At All

Today's been a bit of a mixed day for fans of DC's super-trinity. First, we got the welcome news that Wonder Woman 2 would be arriving six weeks earlier than expected, as the sequel's release date has been bumped forward from December 13, 2019 to November 1st. Sadly, however, some less positive news has now come to light concerning another anticipated sequel.

First, we got the welcome news that Wonder Woman 2 would be arriving six weeks earlier than expected, as the sequel’s release date has been bumped forward from December 13, 2019 to November 1st. In an interview with The New York Times, DCEU producer Charles Roven admitted that Man of Steel 2 is not something Warner Bros. is focusing on right now, meaning fans shouldn’t expect it to arrive in the near future… if it ever arrives at all.

“The Superman sequel “Man of Steel 2″ also isn’t coming anytime soon, if at all,” said the outlet. “Roven says there’s no script but “various story ideas” are being kicked around.”

The last update we had about the sequel was that Kingman director Matthew Vaughn was in talks to helm the movie. He seemed pretty passionate about the project, too, as he spoke about it as openly as he could to the press. However, this news suggests that any potential deal between the director and the studio fell through. Without a filmmaker ready to take on the production, then, it seems that WB have decided to move Man of Steel 2 to the backburner for a while.

That’s a shame in many ways, as Justice League promises to fix much of what many say Man of Steel got wrong about the character. After all, Henry Cavill has promised that Kal-El’s rebirth in the film will bring our first look at “the true Superman” in the DCEU.

While a lot of fans wouldn’t be up for another moody piece in which Supes breaks his enemies’ necks, they would certainly cue up to see a brighter, more hopeful Man of Steel 2 in the vein of Wonder Woman, don’t you think?
