These days, pretty much every big genre release is shrouded in a certain amount of secrecy, and when it comes to the likes of Marvel/DC and Star Wars flicks, that extends to the identities of the characters that actors are cast as.
In the case of Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the names and backgrounds of several key players still remain under wraps – but Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen has let an intriguing detail about the character he’ll play slip out during an interview with Sky News.
Mikkelsen begins by acting coy, but in his excitement to talk about the movie, he winds up revealing that he’ll actually portray Jyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) father.
“I read the script. It was very beautiful and Felicity’s playing this lovely, strong woman [and] I play her father, and… uhh, that’s too much, I’m sorry!”
So there you have it. The Rogue One trailer seems to suggest that Jyn is a loner without any family ties, so perhaps her encountering her estranged father at some point during the movie is an important plot point? That’s just speculation for now, of course, but it could certainly turn out to be the case.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to be released on December 16th.
