When the embargo lifted this past Friday and the first batch of reviews for James Mangold’s Logan hit, a rumor that 20th Century Fox was planning on adding a post-credits stinger to the theatrical cut of the film came with them. The version that screened for press definitely didn’t feature one (trust me, I waited), but then we heard that an extra few minutes had been added which in turn led to the speculation that the studio had decided to give those that caught Logan in theaters a little extra something. Now, Collider has confirmed that this is indeed the case.
Having seen Logan, I must tell you that I’m very surprised by this. It’s true that the previous X-Men movies (well, the most recent batch) utilize post-credits scenes as a way of setting up the next film in the franchise, but, as has already been widely reported, this is a self-contained story and will almost certainly be Hugh Jackman’s final time in the claws.
Though there are certain elements of the movie that could be expanded upon in a sequel, it’s difficult to imagine this stinger will have that much to do with Logan, and will instead most likely tease either The New Mutants or the still not officially announced X-Men: Supernova.
That’s just a guess of course, but we’ll find out for sure when Logan hits theaters on March 3rd. In the meantime, you can check out our very own glowing review of the (supposedly) final solo Wolverine movie right here.
