Joby Harold is quickly becoming the go-to guy for medieval adventures. Guy Ritchie is currently shooting Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur from his screenplay, and now Lionsgate has acquired another promising reimagining from the up-and-coming scribe – Robin Hood: Origins.

No plot details yet, though Harold’s take will of course follow the famed thief who stole from the rich and gave to the poor.

Appian Way will produce thepic alongside Safehouse Pictures’ Harold and Tory Tunnell.

Robin Hood may be making a comeback. Though the last major title to bear that name was Ridley Scott’s ill-received 2010 take, Sony has acquired a pitch for Hood, while Disney is working on turning Nottingham & Hood into a movie. Whether Harold’s take will be dark and brooding or take a lighter approach to the material is one key question. Origin stories for classic characters are all the rage these days, from Jungle Book: Origins to the recently released Dracula Untold. If Harold is to set his apart, he’ll have to get creative.

Knights of the Roundtable is currently in production and Charlie Hunnam, Annabelle Wallis, Astrid Berger Frisby, Jude Law, Eric Bana, Djimon Hounsou, Aiden Gillen and Mikael Persbrandt star in the pic, which will take a grimy, violent approach to unfurling the Arthurian legend of Camelot. Perhaps a similarly kinetic style is in store for Robin Hood: Origins.
