The odds are ever in favor of Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire becoming a box-office behemoth this November, and the studio is now heating up the marketing campaign for the teen-targeted dystopian adventure movie.
Beware, spoilers for the first Hunger Games lie ahead.
In the exciting banner for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which you can interact with by following this link, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) stand tall amidst a crowd of other photogenic young men and women, all clad in amphibious jumpsuits and brandishing some seriously deadly-looking weaponry. Clicking on the picture will also take you to an enlarged version.
At the end of the first movie, Katniss and Peeta returned victorious from the Hunger Games, only to realize that their act of defiance against the brutal competition’s overseers has sparked a rebellion against the totalitarian Capitol. As you can imagine, news of this rebellion does not go over well with President Snow (Donald Sutherland), who schemes to punish the two victors for their impudence.
Check out the plot synopsis for the sequel below:
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
Francis Lawrence, the man behind adaptations of I Am Legend and Water for Elephants, is directing the action-packed sequel. Though the majority of the film will certainly be dedicated to the intense Quarter Quell, it will also be interesting to see how Lawrence’s take on the Capitol will differ from previous series director Gary Ross’s gaudy, CGI-heavy portrayal in the first film.
In addition to Lawrence, Hutcherson and Sutherland, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will also star a huge supporting cast including Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Lynn Cohen, Meta Golding, Amanda Plummer, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Toby Jones and Willow Shields.
Are you excited for this sequel, or is The Hunger Games just another overrated YA series you’re happy to skip?
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens in IMAX on November 22nd this year.
