Lionsgate To Distribute Long Awaited Cabin In The Woods

It's a project that we've been hearing about for a long time now. Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's twist on the old "cabin in the woods" formula was originally at MGM where it was to be released in October of 2009 before being delayed to February of 2010. However, it was delayed again in favor of "upgrading" the film to 3D where it was then slated for release in January of this year.

It’s a project that we’ve been hearing about for a long time now. Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard‘s twist on the old “cabin in the woods” formula was originally at MGM where it was to be released in October of 2009 before being delayed to February of 2010. However, it was delayed again in favor of “upgrading” the film to 3D where it was then slated for release in January of this year.

Unfortunately, that release date was not met either due to MGM’s ongoing financial difficulties. It was then decided that the film (along with MGM’s remake of Red Dawn) would be sold so that they might finally see a release. It’s being reported that Lionsgate has stepped in to release the film, though no release date has been set yet.

Both Whedon and Goddard already have numerous credits under their belts. Whedon is known the world over for his cult favorites Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and the short-lived Firefly. Goddard wrote several episodes of Buffy, Alias, and Lost.

So will we actually see the film this time? It’s hard to tell with a film that’s been delayed this many times. Hopefully the one benefit we’ll see from this long wait is that the film will go out in good old-fashioned 2D. Until then, it’s basically a game of sit and wait until we get an official release date and a trailer to appease the waiting fans.

Cabin in the Woods stars Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Bradley Whitford (The West Wing), and Chris Hemsworth (Thor). Coming sometime to a theater near you… supposedly.
