Next week’s Avengers: Endgame will see the long-awaited return of Hawkeye. And with the famed archer set to make his first MCU appearance since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, there’s every possibility that his family will also get some screen time in the Phase 3 finale.
Linda Cardellini, for instance, made her franchise debut in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron as Clint’s wife Laura Barton. Though the Green Book actress has yet to get a second outing in the MCU, it’s long been a popular theory that she and her three children were among the victims of Thanos’ snap, pushing Hawkeye to embrace his dark side in his new Ronin persona.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cardellini was asked if the upcoming film has such a tragedy in store, to which she offered the following coy response:
“I am not allowed to confirm nor deny, but I do get to go to the premiere. So, that will be fun.”
Unsurprisingly, the actress is reluctant to spill the beans, but unlike some of her MCU peers, at least she isn’t outright denying that she’s involved in Endgame.
Either way, there’s a significant chance that Cardellini has a future in the franchise that goes beyond next week’s release. To elaborate, Variety reported just last week that Hawkeye has his own Disney Plus show in development. And while no cast members beyond Jeremy Renner have been confirmed, surely the series can only go so many episodes before the main character’s wife makes an appearance.
Of course, we’re assuming here that Laura will still be alive by the end of Avengers: Endgame. But if she really has been turned to dust, like the fans are predicting, then it feels safe to assume that she’ll be back in one piece by the time Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have completed their next mission. In any case, we’ll find out the real reason behind Hawkeye’s change in style when the film hits theaters on April 26th.
