In case you missed it, Warner Bros. hosted an online fan event this weekend for Man of Steel to tie in with the film’s home video release tomorrow. Hosted by Kevin Smith, many were hopeful that some exciting Batman vs. Superman tidbits would be revealed. Unfortunately, this was not the case. That being said, director Zack Snyder might have accidentally slipped up and confirmed Lex Luthor as a villain for the film.
For months now we’ve been hearing rumors that Luthor would be the main antagonist in Batman vs. Superman. After all, Man of Steel had several nods to LexCorp which you might have seen if you kept your eyes peeled. Though he still isn’t officially confirmed just yet, Snyder did make a comment during the event which leads us to believe he has plans to include Luthor in his upcoming sequel.
Talking about Superman’s origins, Snyder said: “At its core, Superman is an alien. He comes from an alien world … Lex loves to call him an alien.” While that may not have much meaning, what Kevin Smith said next does. After Snyder finished his comment, Smith replied back with, “That’s a spoiler, folks.”
Now, of course, Kevin Smith is not involved in the film, but he does seem to know quite a bit about it. After all, he’s seen Ben Affleck’s Batman suit several times.
“I saw the costume, more than that I saw him [Ben Affleck] in the costume…I don’t want to give anything away cause that is up to them and stuff, but I am going to say this…I instantly bear hugged him. You have not seen this costume in film before,” Smith said on a recent podcast.
If he’s seen the suit that many times, then it’s safe to assume that he know what’s going on with the production, to some extent at least. Whether or not he was just kidding around about the Luthor comment remains to be seen. He very well could be pulling our legs and trying to cause a fuss over nothing. But based on the fact that we’ve been hearing Luthor rumors for months now, I’d say that there’s a very, very good chance that we’ll be seeing the iconic villain show up in Batman vs. Superman.
