Shouldering its way between the crowd this Oscar season is Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Acting as the filmmaker’s fifth collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio, the film depicts the tragic journey of Jordan Belfort; a sly New York stockbroker who wheels and deals his way to the top of the proverbial food chain. And in order to tease the hedonistic opus, Red Granite Studios published a fresh bevy of images which you can check out below.

Billed as a black comedy mixed with elements of biographical drama, The Wolf of Wall Street focuses on the career of the aforementioned Belfort through his titular memoir. It’s a bullish tale that charts his trailblazing rise to success, a triumph typified by his founding of the Stratton Oakmount brokerage house when he was still in his late twenties. With this great ascension, however, came a devastating fall – with booze, sex and greed serving as Belfort’s beleaguering demons.

Speaking with Vulture, here’s what Scorsese had to offer about his interpretation of The Wolf of Wall Street:

“It’s an old story, really: People can take their identification with movies and novels to some alarming places. Some people might just zero in on the fun, exhilarating side of it. But if you’re putting a world on film, and you’re going to stay true to that world, as opposed to show it from a distance, you’re going to make it attractive and entertaining—and, by the way, the people are entertaining, and they had a great time until they got caught.”

Quite frankly, it’s a journey that resembles that of Henry Hill’s from Scorsese’s masterful Goodfellas. Plus, with Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill and Jon Bernthal also among the acting pack, The Wolf of Wall Street is undoubtedly a key contender to compete in this year’s award season, we’ll just have to wait patiently until November 15th, 2013 to see if that hype is justified.
