Meet The Villain Of The LEGO Ninjago Movie

There's been a lot of promotional material dropped on us lately for this month's The LEGO Batman Movie, but for some reason, The LEGO Ninjago Movie hasn't gotten the same fanfare. Beyond a short film released before last fall's Storks, we've seen next to nothing from the upcoming animated release, but that'll change in the near future. A trailer is expected soon (likely before The LEGO Batman Movie) and now, we've got one of our first stills from the flick, which puts the villain on prominent display.

There’s been a lot of promotional material dropped on us lately for this month’s The LEGO Batman Movie, but for some reason, The LEGO Ninjago Movie hasn’t gotten the same fanfare. Beyond a short film released before last fall’s Storks, we’ve seen next to nothing from the upcoming animated release, but that’ll change in the near future. A trailer is expected soon (likely before The LEGO Batman Movie) and now, we’ve got one of our first stills from the flick, which puts the villain on prominent display.

The image comes from USA Today, specifically their Twitter account. Promising to release more over the weekend, this brief tease nevertheless gives us our first look at Lord Garmadon (voiced by Justin Theroux), who’ll menace the titular Ninjago characters throughout the film. Theroux is just one of multiple voice actors attached to the project, as he’s joined by Jackie Chan, Dave Franco, Michael Pena, Fred Armisen, Olivia Munn, Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and Silicon Valley‘s Kumail Nanjiani and Zach Woods, in addition to a few others.

Little is known about the new animated feature at this point, but Lord Garmadon is promised to be “the Worst Guy Ever” as he’s an evil warlord that also happens to be the dad of Lloyd (Franco), one of the main Ninjago warriors. The martial arts action and comedy will ensue from that point forward, we presume.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie punches and kicks into theaters on September 22. The LEGO Batman Movie, meanwhile, arrives February 10th. Again, don’t be surprised to see the trailer for the former during the latter. It’s not promised, but c’mon. It’s gotta be there, right? Why wouldn’t it be?
