Oscar-winning actress Frances McDormand has supposedly joined the ranks of Legendary’s super-sized MonsterVerse for Godzilla Vs. Kong.
That Hashtag Show (h/t CBM) has the scoop, revealing that McDormand, best known for her scenery-chewing roles across Three Billboards and FX’s Fargo series, has clinched a role in the 2020 crossover. Or at least we think she has.
THS’ original post has since been taken down, meaning this ‘scoop’ is a little suspect. Either the outlet ran the story too soon, or it was pulled at the request of Legendary for being totally inaccurate. The takeaway? Frances McDormand’s involvement in Godzilla Vs. Kong isn’t a foregone conclusion, though we can at least take solace in the fact Adam Wingard’s mega-movie has cast Julian Dennison in a mystery role.
The up-and-coming New Zealander is still riding high after his performance as Russell Collins (AKA Firefist) in Deadpool 2, and we know he’ll be flanked by Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things and Kyle Chandler when the lights go down in two years’ time.
Much like Frances McDormand’s alleged involvement, no further details on Dennison’s role were disclosed at the time of writing, and we’ll likely have to wait until Godzilla: King of the Monsters stomps its way into theaters before we get a better read on Gojira’s next big screen grudge match.
It’s one in which Toho’s apex predator is expected to go up against Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah, meaning Japan’s most famous movie monster will have plenty of practice before the inevitable Godzilla Vs. Kong pummels its way into theaters the following year – May 22nd, 2020, to be specific.
