Almost three decades on from the moment audiences were invited to partake in The Blair Witch Project, director Adam Wingard is on the verge of releasing the long-rumored Blair Witch sequel into theaters – and a pair of promos have landed online to prove it.
Dressed up as The Woods for the longest time – a bait-and-switch reminiscent of Bad Robot’s handling of 10 Cloverfield Lane – Lionsgate officially revealed Wingard’s backwoods thriller to be a bona fide Blair Witch sequel late last month, pulling the rug out from under just about everyone.
Ordering the likes of James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid and Wes Robinson to Black Hills woods, the follow-up begins with the discovery of a long lost tape, one that appears to shed light on the mysterious disappearance of a wayward sibling. More than twenty years on from the original haunting, Blair Witch has now become a Maryland myth – an old folk story that is exchanged from one generation to the next. But as these teasers prove, Black Hills is still harboring a horrifying mystery.
Blair Witch will hope to conjure up a new breed of horror when Adam Wingard’s sequel touches down on September 16.
A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James’ sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.
