All roads lead to this. After expanding the X-Men cinematic universe with aplomb all across First Class and Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer is on the verge of closing the book on his mutant prequel trilogy with the release of X-Men: Apocalypse.
Due to loom over theaters in May, 20th Century Fox has drawn attention to its anticipated threequel by debuting a brand new sizzle reel during tonight’s Super Bowl 50. Even with Dawn of Justice looming on the horizon, X-Men: Apocalypse is, without question, one of the biggest tentpole films making its bow in 2016, and today’s new snippet showcases the biblical destruction it heralds.
[zerg]Placing the spotlight on Oscar Isaac’s glowering, all-powerful deity, fans are introduced to his awakening in the clip, which portends all kinds of chaos for man and mutantkind alike. If Days of Future Past was lauded for its stellar visual effects, Apocalypse looks set to blow all expectations out of the water, and we’re holding out hope that the story is on par with the jaw-dropping spectacle.
Oscar Isaac takes point as the title mega-villain, flanked by his trusty Four Horsemen: Ben Hardy as Angel, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Olivia Munn as Psylocke and Michael Fassbender as Magneto. Rounding out the remainder of the star-studded ensemble are Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and finally James McAvoy as the bald Professor X.
X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 26, 2016.
“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
